SPLIT ROCK RIVER LOOP MILES: 5 DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Moderate DESCRIPTION: This is one of
the premier day hike loops on the Superior Hiking Trail. This
attractive trail gently
ascends the west side of the river. The trail courses 50 feet above the
river, which cascades past cliffs and red rock walls draped with
conifers. Experience countless cascading falls. After crossing the foot
bridge, day hikers will break for lunch and have a chance to cool off
in the river. After lunch, hikers descend the east side of the
river. After more geological wonders and waterfalls, the trail ascends
away from the river and leads up to a very scenic overlook offering a
grand view of the Spilt Rock River Valley. Then the trail descends back
down to highway 61 and the Split Rock River parking lot. VIEW

BRITTON PEAK TO TEMPERANCE RIVER MILES: 4.8 DIFFICULTY
LEVEL: Easy DESCRIPTION:
This is one of the
most easily accessible sections of the Superior Hiking Trail and one of
the most commonly
used. The hike to Carlton Peak from Britton Peak is an easy ascent. Day
hikers will ascend to the top of Carlton Peak with rewards of
incredible views. After
having lunch on top Carlton Peak, day hikers will descend through solid
birch forests to the Temperance River. Day hikers will be allowed the
opportunity to cool off in the famous Temperance River "gorge." The
trail follows the east side of the Temperance River, where hikers will
be exsposed to numerous waterfalls in the deep dark basaltic canyon. VIEW

CASCADE RIVER LOOP MILES:
7.8 DIFFICULTY
LEVEL: Easy to moderate
DESCRIPTION: Park at the
Cascade
River wayside rest and hike up the west side of the Cascade River. See
the famous “Root Beer” falls and numerous rapids and waterfalls. The
trail then ascends inland and travels up to county road 45.
After crossing over the Cascade River, hikers will return downstream on
the
east side of the river. After viewing more cascading rapids and
waterfalls, day hikers will stop and have lunch on the edge of the
Cascade River. Following lunch, hikers will continue their descent down
the river and back to the parking lot. VIEW

THE VISTAS DAY HIKE MILES:
6 DIFFICULTY
LEVEL: Difficult DESCRIPTION: This three vista hike
offers day hikers some of best overlooks on the North Shore.
First,
day hikers will make the quick ascent up to the top of White Sky Rock
where they will be treated to grand views of Caribou Lake and
breakfast. After this,
they will travel to Oberg Mountain. After ascending this gentle giant,
they will be offered spectacular views overlooking Lake Superior, Oberg
Lake, and Moose Mountain. Lunch will be served on top
Oberg Mountain. After descending Oberg
Mountain, hikers will travel lastly to Section 13 (a favorite place for
rock climbers). The hike up to Section13 through the maple forests
offers many scenic overlooks. Once on top Sect. 13 hikers will be
treated to a panoramic view of the valley below. Hikers may even see a
moose in one of the marshes below in the valley. VIEW

THE WATERFALLS DAY HIKE MILES:
5.5 DIFFICULTY
LEVEL: Easy to Moderate DESCRIPTION: This three river
day hike offers day
hikers a variety of beautiful waterfalls. First, day hikers will hike
up
to Caribou falls and get up close with this spectacular waterfall.
Next, hikers
will travel to the Baptism River where they will see famous "High
Falls" and "Two Step Falls." Lunch will be served at the High Falls,
where day hikers can cool their feet off in river. Lastly, hikers will
travel to Beaver River, where they will hike and
view some of the smaller waterfalls of the Beaver River. VIEW
