2013 Fall Color Trip

  • The maples were just starting to hit their peak colors with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. One morning I hiked up the fire tower on Mt. Maud in Grand Portage and captured the first light on the autumn canopy. This fire tower is very sketchy with missing boards on the stairs and countless ways to fall and die. I would not recommend hiking up this fire tower for safety reasons.

  • I drove down countless back roads in search of the perfect spot. I revisited many locations from past fall trips with hopes of improving on past images. One of these locations was Honeymoon Bluff for sunset.

  • This was inside the old fisherman's cabin. A very basic cabin, but it can prove lifesaving if you need to get off Lake Superior in a hurry. No reservation needed.

  • My favorite time of day is the morning. Kicking back in my truck, drinking some fresh brewed coffee, and figuring out the day's itinerary.

  • I drove down to Baraboo Wisconsin and photographed this creek. This natural gorge was cut by a small stream called Skillet Creek. The maples were peaking and many of the leaves covered the walls and floor of the gorge.

  • I drove over 2,000 miles this year chasing fall colors. The window to get the perfect shots with the perfect conditions is so small. This morning there was a light coating of snow of the freshly fallen leaves.
