2015 Winter Camping Trip

Every winter I go camping with the best man from my wedding. We camped the first night by Lake Superior and woke up the following morning to minus ten below. We built a fire, warmed up, and sipped coffee.

Frozen in time. sometimes the rocks along the shore are covered in ice for months.

I am not sure how these trees and little bushes survive along the shoreline during the winter months.

It is amazing the force that creates these ice piles.

geometric shapes and angles. No two pieces of plate ice are alike. each one is uniquely made.

The ice reports on Lake Superior were true. There was ice everywhere. This sheet ice reminded me of broken widows.

This is a whole ice field of plate ice.

The shoreline was encased in ice from previous storms.

More ice.

That morning we found some huge ice ridges about hundred yard off from shore. Of course, these large ice piles beckoned us. Some of the ice heaves were over twelve feet high. It was partly sunny, with dark clouds and lightly snowing, so it created the perfect backdrop for this memorizing blue ice. I climbed up on the ice and my friend snapped a photo of me.

This is a close up of some of the larger blocks of ice. Lake Superior ice is incredibly blue.
