2016 Winter Camping Trip

This weekend a good friend of mine and I went up to the north shore to do some winter camping. There was over three feet of snow in the woods and plenty of ice along the Lake Superior shoreline. We ended up camping in a quinzee (snow cave), which provided nice protection from the zero degree temps and wind.

Huge piles of ice were heaved up along the shoreline near the Split Rock Lighthouse.

After the sun went down, the moon came up. The winter months are the best times to photograph the full moon at the lighthouse.

The next morning I was treated to a nice sunrise.

The ice piles always beckon to me to venture out.

I love it when the ice gets stacked.
